Attention multitaskers, we have a solution for you! Dealing with multiple apps and windows simultaneously can be a hassle when you're constantly switching back and forth. Perhaps you often need to compare information from two windows side-by-side while working on various tasks. For instance, copying data from one document to a spreadsheet can be made easier by having both windows visible together.
If you're fortunate enough to have the luxury of a dual monitor setup, that's one way to handle it. However, if that's not an option, there's a relatively straightforward solution that has been available since 2019. Apple introduced the macOS Catalina operating system, which brought the split-screen view to iOS users. With this feature, you can easily fill your screen with two apps, eliminating the need to constantly resize and drag windows around. If you're using Catalina or a later version, which is highly likely, you can take advantage of this convenient feature. Allow us to show you how.
To initiate the split-screen view on your Mac, follow these steps:
- Locate the red, yellow, and green buttons at the top left corner of your window.
- Hover your cursor over the green button or click and hold it.
- As you do so, a menu will appear, presenting you with various options for viewing your screen.
To activate the split-screen mode on your Mac, follow these steps:
- Click on either "Tile Window to Left of Screen" or "Tile Window to Right of Screen," depending on your preference.
- Your current window will be resized and positioned to either the left or right side of your screen accordingly.
Simultaneously, all other open windows on your Mac will be displayed on the opposite side of the split screen. Now, you can easily click on the window you wish to have displayed alongside your current one, and voilà! You're now in split-screen mode, with both windows conveniently arranged side-by-side.
